Kellie Havrilak We went on a cold day and ordered grilled cheese sandwiches and the tomato soup. My goodness flavors were bursting everywhere. The grilled cheese had different cheeses on brioche and a touch of aioli. The soup was rich with herbs and so perfect on this cold day. They had hot buttered rum for us but we choose chocolate mousse instead. I’m hooked on this place. Service is always swift and nice. The chef is very accommodating l hope he never leaves.

3.Lockhart Seafood and Steak

Address: 912 S Commerce St, Lockhart, TX 78644

Chris McKamey I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I got a ribeye steak medium rare and shrimp. The shrimp were large and fresh and perfectly cooked. The steak was a little on the thin side, but very juicy, well seasoned and flavorful. Baked potato was good too. My wife got the coconut shrimp which she says was also quite good. I got a salad as well - it was fresh but a little bland, and the ranch dressing was fine but nothing special. Just one waitress, but it was fairly slow when we went. She was polite and helpful. The interior was nice, but not too fancy. I’ll definitely go again.

5.La Cantera Mexican Restaurant

Address: 119 E Walnut St, Lockhart, TX 78644

jeremy edens This place knocked my socks off the first time I visited, so I had to return two weeks later to make sure it wasnt just a dream. Im from a small town, and I love small town restaurants. There is nothing like the kind friendly folks and atmosphere that can come with a genuine place that the locals flock to eat. That is not always the case, unfortunately. In this case, it is exactly what you expect. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is cozy and makes you feel like home. Then, there is the food. All that stuff is great, but if the food is lackluster, its all a facade. La Cantera is the real McCoy. From the table salsa and chips to the entrees and sides, they nail classic Tex-Mex. I had a gordita plate with one shredded chicken and one groumd beef the first stop. My wife had the chicken enchiladas verde. All superb. Second trip I had the poco de todo. Yes, a little bit of everything, to check out a variety of items. Taco meat is seasoned so well, and the red enchilada sauce is smooth and packed with flavor. My wife had a chicken quesadilla which was large enough that I managed to get part of as well. My wife normally doesnt care too much for refritos and arroz, but these are so good, she ordered a side of each. Ill keep driving a half hour from the house to eat here as long as they are in business. The accolades and awards on the wall tell me that it will be for a long time. Maybe, Ill just move closer to Lockhart and become a local.

Katherine Contreras We absolutely love MSC! We started visiting them when they were on the square in Lockhart, and love that the current location is about 5min from the house. Obviously, we tend to eat the same meals, but we have purchased from the menu, come in for the buffets, and ordered turkey and ham for Thanksgiving the last two years. We usually go in when they open (10am) so that we don’t have to wait, but have also successfully used the reservation service for Mother’s Day. The food is hot, ingredients fresh, and staff is always very attentive.

Ramin I finally made it to Kreuz to try their BBQ. The brisket was fine, but honestly a little dry for my taste, which was disappointing since that’s usually the star of the plate. The sausage, however, was really flavorful and juicy, definitely the highlight of the meal. The atmosphere is great—big open space with that classic Texas BBQ vibe, and it feels like the kind of place you want to sit down and enjoy a meal with friends. Service was straightforward and quick. Overall, it was a decent experience, but I’d probably come back more for the sausage and atmosphere than the brisket.
